NEW YORK, NEW YORK!

New York, New York!
Never a dull moment to be had in the Big Apple where we were on design and architecture business. In the city that never sleeps we didn’t rest either due to a mixture of sheer excitement for New York Design Week’s marvels, the many new architecture gems that are springing up, meetings and drinks on the many new and old rooftops of the city as well as a host of art shows we didn’t want to miss.
With design on our minds and the constant rumble of the city in our ears, we made our way through the city stunned and overwhelmed not only with the amount of great installations in this New York Design Week but also the many building sites and skyscraper constructions that dot the city. As architecture lovers we hardly knew where to look. Wherever you went, new constructions are majorly changing the face of New York. Especially in Brooklyn and Williamsburg, which has changed its feel by miles. Calatrava’s complex and stunning subway construction is taking shape as part of the rebuilding of the World Trade Center, which was of course a must-see. In Tribecca, the exceptionally tall and slender residential tower 56 Leonard by Herzog de Meuron is being realised. Nevertheless the classic architectural landmarks of the city are always worth having a look at, such as: The Flatiron Building, build in 1902 as one of the first skyscrapers in New York with its aerodynamic triangular form is still staggering. Taking a breather, we enjoyed a visit to the MOMA followed of course by drinks at Le Bain, breathing in the atmosphere of the city at sundown and enjoying more views from above with mind blowing drinks in hand and savouring some of New York’s many culinary delights.
