Karimoku New Standard (KNS), which focuses on the use of low-diameter domestic hardwood trees, and MAS, a woodworking furniture brand born from dialogue with primarily domestic softwood, will jointly exhibit at Capsule Plaza, hosted by Capsule, during Milan Design Week 2025, from 7 April (Mon) to 13 April (Sun). The exhibition is directed by David Glättli, Creative Director of KNS, and Wataru Kumano, Design Director of MAS. In collaboration with Capsule, they will create a space where Japanese traditional aesthetics and contemporary design intersect.

To kick off 2025, Karimoku Furniture launches four new products from MAS, the Japanese wooden furniture brand born out of a dialogue with domestic materials, mainly coniferous woods. The latest designs by design director Wataru Kumano, Ville Kokkonen, and Daniel Rybakken include the WK Armchair 01 Pad, WK Chair 01 Pad, DR Chair 01 Pad, and VK Side Table 01.

Japan’s leading wooden furniture manufacturer Karimoku Furniture Inc. is proud to announce the international launch of the contemporary design brand MAS. Highlighting the natural beauty of Hinoki (Japanese Cypress) is a signature feature of MAS. By exploring the natural beauty of its grain, MAS achieves a simple yet refined linear form that blends seamlessly into a variety of interior styles, from traditional to contemporary. In an effort to develop new and innovative ways of using Japan’s native softwoods, the brand under the direction of Wataru Kumano incorporates traditional Japanese woodworking skills into furniture structures, focusing on the material’s characteristics to explore design expressions that only softwoods can achieve.
